I arrived at a garage sale in the early afternoon of the second day of the sale. As I walked through the garage, a jumbled mess of necklaces caught my eye. I picked up the wad of necklaces and looked at their clasps. I saw a clasp marked 585 with a tag on it that read 14K. Jackpot! Gold! There was no price, so I put the entire wad of chains in my hand and asked how much for all of them, since I couldn’t get them apart right now. The lady told me a dollar. Sold!

Here’s what I found when I got the mess untangled. There were a few costume jewelry broken chains, one sterling silver chain, and this 14K yellow gold 17.5 inch, 0.93 grams necklace. It had a costume jewelry flower pendant on it.

I sold the gold chain on 12-4-13 for $34.99. Not bad, a profit of $28. So, keep an eye out for jumbled necklace messes, you can probably buy the entire wad of one price. Chances are, the previous owner doesn’t really care about the necklaces, because they didn’t take the time to untangle them, so you’ll probably get them cheap.
