Here’s a cute silver dolphin charm with a mother-of-pearl inlay. This charm is from my personal jewelry collection (AKA – not found at a secondhand sale). I am showing it to you, because I want to tell you some important facts and I needed a picture to illustrate what I’m talking about.
Mexican Silver Dolphin Charm with mother-of-pearl inlay.
This charm was made in Mexico. The mark reads “Exposilver Tonos .950″ or does it? It was a little hard to make out the “N”. It might have been an H or an M, so I did some research on the internet. I found out that “Exposilver Tonos” is the maker’s mark. It is an “N”.
Mexican Silver Dolphin Charm Mark .950.
The .950 refers to the quality of silver, which is higher than sterling (.925), but less than fine (.999). It is not uncommon to find silver purities higher than sterling on Mexican made silver, so keep your eyes open for these additional purity marks.
