Mount Marathon Race and Parade July 4th, 2003 in Seward Alaska. Winners - Men's (Todd Boonstra) Women's (Nina Kemppel) Junior Boys (Rory Egelus) Junior Girls (Leah Besh) Heralded as the toughest 5k race on the planet. The Mount Marathon Race was started as a bet between two old boys at a local bar if someone could make it up and down Mount Marathon in less than an hour. The first organized race was in 1915. It has since become a standing tradition on the 4th of July in Seward.
