Sterling Silver Chain Mail Necklace

Here’s a picture of my latest sterling silver find and the story to go with it. This past Friday I visited a few thrift stores that I rarely frequent. The first two stores I went to did not have any real deals on precious metals. In fact, I was actually shocked when I saw a sterling silver spinning ring (which didn’t spin easily) with a price tag of $85. Oh my gosh, it was not what I was expecting to see when I turned the price tag over. Needless to say, it wasn’t a deal in my book, so the thrift store kept that ring.

On the visit to the third thrift store, I found a unique Chain Mail Necklace. It was so cool, I just had to have it. Again, I was shocked when I turned over the price tag, but this time it was a pleasant surprise. It read $15. It was a done deal in my book. I bought the beautiful necklace and have the pictures to share with you below.

Here’s the break down on all the numbers, because you know I love to know if it was a good deal compared to the spot price for silver. I already know it was a great deal based on a beautiful wearable necklace. If you tried to buy it in a store, you would definitely pay more than $15. The necklace measures 17.5″. It weighs 15.3 grams. When I ran it through the conversion calculator, it equals 0.455 troy ounces of fine silver in this necklace. Friday’s silver spot price was $33.48. When I did the calculations, the necklace has $15.23 of silver in it. I paid $15 for it and that is a good investment to me (considering I paid under the silver spot price). This necklace was one of those, I would regret it if I didn’t buy it, so I bought it.

This proves the sterling silver is still out there and not everyone is charging the huge dollar values for it. Be sure to let me know what you have found out there in your treasure hunting adventures, so I can share it with others.
